The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotions, adopted during the first International Conference on Health Promotions, aims to reduce differences in current health status and ensures equal opportunities and resources to enable all people to achieve their fullest health potential. It defines Health Promotion as the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It emphasizes that health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but goes beyond health life-styles to well-being.
