President Rodrigo Roa Duterte promised a nationwide smoking ban as early as May 2016, and then he repeated his campaign vow in September last year. The draft executive order has been ready for his signature since October, but still hasn’t been released. So where is it now? How will we make the Philippines truly smoke-free and tobacco-free?
At least 240 Filipinos die every day from smoking-related diseases. Exposure to secondhand smoke increases a non-smoker’s chance of developing lung cancer by 20% to 30%.
No amount of secondhand smoke will ever be safe, and no one should be permitted to irresponsibly place other people’s lives and health in peril by exposing them to secondhand smoke.
We must lose no time in providing a smoke-free environment for our children and families, and the nationwide smoking ban will help us save more lives!
Protektahan ang kalusugan ng buong sambayanan! Pangulong Duterte, pirmahan na ang Executive Order para sa Smoke-Free Pilipinas!
